Bula Kalimba uses a system of numbered musical notations, meaning anyone can learn to play in minutes—even with zero prior musical education or experience.
Even better, this numbers-based approach makes even advanced songs accessible, so you can start playing what you love right away.
And the way the numbers work is simple.
Here’s an example: The Numbers “1” to “7” on the Kalimba represent the musical notes of C, D, E, F, G, A, B or “do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, si, ti.”
Now the first part of the popular tune “Old MacDonald Had A Farm” now becomes: 1 1 1 1, 6 6 6, 3 3 2 2 1 – “Old Mac-don-ald had a farm, E, I, E, I O.”
Just follow the numbers, and you have a tune. Easy!
Our handmade kalimbas is made from rich mahogany and ore steel bars, which ensures a top-quality sound. Double-screw keys are used to increase the stability, and the solid mahogany gives the instrument an almost indestructible feel.
The sound box is handmade from solid mahogany, with variable tree growth giving each instrument a unique grain and shading.
The keys of our kalimbas are made of ore steel, flexible but still hard-wearing, pre-tuned and ready to use, Delivering a rich and bright tone.
The box-mounted kalimbas are louder and you can get a great "wah-wah" effect by covering and uncovering the sound holes. So adding special effects to your music is easy.
The sound of the Kalima is so amazing and mesmerizing, even if you cannot play music, tapping on the different notes is music itself!
The stickers can be used to help identify the keys, so you know which one is C, A, D, etc. Will help in learning where each key is while learning to play the instrument.
Pre-tuned in C.

Step 2: Tune with The Included Hammer
Making tines longer (from the point where they are held down on the bridge) will lower their pitch, and making them shorter will make their pitch higher.
Playing a kallmba with thumbs is possible, but not comfortable. Playing them with thumb fingernail tips is far more comfortable, and creates a clear melodic tone. There are products available for protecting fingernails… and it’s interesting learning about them.
If you are going to “get good” on the kalimba, you should try to play it a bit every day. Do it for 15 minutes a day. Once in a while, you will probably really get into playing, and 60 minutes will go by before you realize it.

Wash the wood down with a paper towel, lightly dampened with a little warm soapy water. The idea is to remove the soiling – not the oils and waxes used in the finish. Then wipe with a dry towel.
